A Story of a Father and a 'Look'

StoryCorp produces a series of vignettes that are tell stories of that are essentially morality tales many of which are based upon the memories of the people telling the tales.

'A Family Man' is the story of  John L. Black, Sr. who in 1955, started his job as a janitor for the Cincinnati public school system. He regularly put in 16-hour days to provide for his wife and eleven children. At StoryCorps, his son Samuel talks with his wife, Edda Fields-Black, about his father's lasting legacy and the power of a look. It's a wonderfully simple story of the powerful influence of a father on the life of a son. Nothing particularly profound...unless you had a hardworking father like John Black.

I'll be sharing some of these stories periodically. I hope you enjoy them...
