Privilege and Poverty

What goes through your mind when you read these words?

Hard working

These are just a few words that generally describe how we think in our various socioeconomic groups - rich and poor.

In fact they represent the lens through which we view one another. The rich tend to see the poor as objects of charity. People who don't work hard enough to make it. The poor see the wealthy as greedy. Some poor people are deemed worthy if they are seen as hardworking, while the wealthy are deemed to have earned what they have.

This TED talk uses an experiment the board game Monopoly to show how we change when we think we are earned our place in the world when we start out with 'money' and our attitudes towards those who don't.
